Wood.
Wood is, above all else, my preferred medium. I began painting and drawing on wood in 2014 as an experiment, trying to do some artwork on a guitar my friend was building. Ever since then I have largely stuck to working on wood, either with pyrography, ink, acrylic or pen. I prefer to work on imperfect pieces, unusual off-cuts, wood that features bark and unusual knots, and pieces that have a known provenance and story. I tend to sand my wood only slightly, preferring to work on pieces that look and feel more natural. I have worked on pieces all the way from huge, 6 foot slabs of oak, to thin, broken pieces of discarded pallets. I use a Peter Child pen for pyrography, Winsor Newton inks for painting, and a simple Uniball pen for the drawings.
